WHAT IS “SWING DANCING”?
Swing dancing” refers to the dances that developed along with the swinging style of jazz music from around 1927 to 1945: when jazz became the popular music of the era. Think of big bands, sharply dressed jitterbugs, juke joints, hot jazz and crazy high-flying dancers!

WHAT IS LINDY HOP?
The Lindy Hop is the best-known of the swing dances. It’s an exciting and dynamic partnered dance that came out of Harlem in the late 1920s and spread around the world. It is often described as a jazz or street dance. You may know it as the “Jitterbug”. Read more about Lindy Hop at Wikipedia.

I’VE NEVER DANCED BEFORE, WHERE SHOULD I START?
If you’ve never danced before you needn’t worry! Simply book in for one of our monthly Beginner Workshops; they’re designed to have you dancing in one afternoon.

WHEN DOES YOUR NEXT BEGINNER WORKSHOP START?
All start dates will be listed on the front page or to the right in the column.

DO I NEED TO BOOK?
Yes, bookings are essential for the Beginner Workshops.  You needn’t book for weekly drop in classes.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASSES?
Yourself, your class fee and possibly a water bottle. A smile wouldn’t go astray but we can supply those.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASSES?
Comfortable clothing (jeans etc) and comfortable shoes (we recommend sneakers).

DO I NEED TO BRING A PARTNER?
We encourage you to but you certainly aren’t required to. We rotate partners in all of our classes so everyone gets a chance to dance with someone new on the night.

WHAT’S THE AVERAGE AGE OF YOUR STUDENTS?
The ages of our students vary greatly from 18 to 65. Everyone’s welcome!

I’VE DONE DANCING BEFORE, CAN I SKIP YOUR BEGINNER WORKSHOP?
Sorry, no. As dance professionals ourselves we strongly believe in learning a new dance from its foundation. Every dance is uniquely different and never more so than in the foundation and basic structure of the dance. We also teach basic “moves” like the Swing Out that are a requirement for moving into Lindy 1, without these you’re unable to attend our weekly classes.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I FINISH THE BEGINNER WORKSHOP?
Once you have completed the Beginner Workshop you’re encouraged to join in on our weekly classes.  We have several locations around the metro area and you’re welcome to drop in on any (or all) of them.

WHERE DO PEOPLE DANCE?
Anywhere there’s Jazz! See our Where Can We Dance page for more information.

WHY SHOULD I TAKE UP SWING DANCING?
Apart from it being the greatest dance ever invented by the Human Race? Well, because it’s great for fitness, for getting away from your TV set and for meeting new people!
