In addition to these, we run specialty workshops featuring local or international instructors.

Yes but it starts when you do. We cover the basic steps every week so each class is designed to be someone’s first. Each week you’ll cover the basics and then learn new material. There’s a five week rotating syllabus and you can start at any time. Think of it as a course that starts when you do.

Our Level 1 classes cost $60 for five weeks. For $60 you’ll receive a Star Card with five classes that can be used at any venue over any length of time (they don’t expire).

Our Level 2 classes cost $15 per class or $60 for 5 ($12 each).

Swing dancing” refers to the dances that developed along with the swinging style of jazz music from around 1927 to 1945: when jazz became the popular music of the era. Think of big bands, sharply dressed jitterbugs, juke joints, hot jazz and crazy high-flying dancers!

The Lindy Hop is the best-known of the swing dances. It’s an exciting and dynamic partnered dance that came out of Harlem in the late 1920s and spread around the world. It is often described as a jazz or street dance. You may know it as the “Jitterbug”. Read more about Lindy Hop at Wikipedia.

If you’ve never danced before you needn’t worry! Simply rock up to one of our Level 1 classes and you’ll be dancing in no time.

No, you don’t need to book in for our weekly Level 1 classes.  Each class can be someone’s first, just drop in.

Comfortable clothing (jeans etc) and comfortable shoes (we recommend sneakers).

We encourage you to but you certainly aren’t required to. We rotate partners in all of our classes so everyone gets a chance to dance with someone new on the night.

The ages of our students vary greatly from 18 to 65. Everyone’s welcome!

Sorry, no. As dance professionals ourselves we strongly believe in learning a new dance from its foundation. Every dance is uniquely different and never more so than in the foundation and basic structure of the dance. We also teach basic “moves” like the Swing Out that are a requirement for moving into Lindy 1, without these you’re unable to attend our weekly classes.

Apart from it being the greatest dance ever invented by the Human Race? Well, because it’s great for fitness, for getting away from your TV set and for meeting new people!

Classes are one thing but there’s a time in every Lindy Hoppers life when they need to step away from the safety of the classroom, cast aside their reservations and DANCE! Luckily with Swing It! we have plenty of opportunities to test out your new rhythms and moves, cut a rug, dance up a storm and meet a host of new people. Check out our social dancing options here.
